2. FEATURES OF PRODUCT DESIGN; CROSSLINKED AND HIGHLY EXPANDED POLYETHYLENE FOAM HAVING A HDPE SKIN BY ROTATIONAL MOLDING
- An excellent adiabatic composite is formed by the following process: Introducing HDPE powders of 0.1 mm in diameter for the skin and grains of a special compound (i.e. mixture of LDPE core material, a crosslinking agent and a foaming agent) of 1 to 10 mm in diameter in a specified mold, rotating the mold but not applying centrifugal force, and heating it for crosslinking and foaming.
- Stiffening-divider-structure is formed in the core of composite by the following process: Extruding the above special compound into a rod of 2 to 4 mm in diameter first, covering its surface with a non-foaming resin material, obtaining double-layered pellets by cutting it, and applying RM process with the pellets together with HDPE powders for the skin. By this stiffening-divider provided structure, excellent properties, e.g. flexural strength, compression strength, impact strength can be given to a foamed composite. Hollow structure in the core is similarly and easily formed.
- An environment-friendly composite of highly expanded polyethylene foam: Recycling of its shaped article itself is possible. Moreover, containing waste materials of rubber, plastic, wood, etc. in the foamed core, as a means of the industrial-waste treatment, is possible.
- Shaped articles having a soft skin, foamed skin, or foamed-divider provided structure can be obtained.

PLASTIC COMPOSITE STRUCTURE OF A SKIN AND A FOAMED CORE
Introduction
SHIINA KASEI COMPANY is prepared to give the onerous technical license for the undermentioned plastic composite structure. Access of a company or business to us http://www.mitsufuku.co.jp/ is welcome.
1. Explanation of the new plastic composite structure
SHIINA KASEI CO. has developed a new one-shot rotational molding technique for the manufacture of a composite structure having a cross-linked polyethylene foamed core and a polyethylene or polypropylene skin. The structure is wholly integrated (ref. Photo 1), which results high strength. Further, addition of a non-foaming strengthening member in the foamed core is possible (ref. Photo 2), which enhances the strength against compression or flexural stress. It is characteristic with such structure that a shaped body has superior strength, thermal insulation, and lightweight properties. This Japan-born unique technique is unparalleled in the world.
A body having the structure is formed in a manner: A proper quantity of polyethylene powder or, as the case maybe, polypropylene powder, and "Type I", or "Type II" foaming pellet, are charged in a mold. Rotational molding is applied at 300℃. After quenching, a shaped body is released from the mold. A shaped body having the cross section of Photo I is to be obtained with the Type I pellet, while that of Photo II being obtained with the Type II pellet.
This technique is suitable for a large size molding product, and its thermal insulation application will be contributing to the energy conservation in future.
The molding cost of the technique is almost on the same level as that of normal rotational molding, J¥1,000 to 1,500 per kg, which means that superior cost performance is attained by the technique.
